UniProject - Triangulate

In my second year at Loughborough University one of my modules required the class to design a dedicated app device.

For my solution I chose to create a photography aid device that helps the user to record and locate photograph opportunities.

Fits onto the camera to aid photography.

I wanted this design to have a certain aesthetic.

I really enjoy the geometric style of the images shown here.

Once I had roughed out the design, I did some additional sketches which helped me to refine the design further.

These sketches began with some of the most relevant ergonomic measurements, then some further harness & modular storage options.

The project required the initial prorotypes to be tested for ergonomics.

I created a quick prototype made from card and plastic, which was given to users to feel to see if it fitted well in the hand.

The shape was unusual because it also fits directly onto the top of the cameras hot-shoe.

The module required us to provide an example of how and why the device would be used.

Here we can see that using the device will provide more specific information than what could be provided by just a mobile phone.

The use of an accurate altimeter will provide elevation data to help people locate a good photo opportunity vs one that may not be so good.

The design had to be made a as a physical prototype.

I made one very simple one to show the size and test ergonomics.

The final prototype was a visual representation of the how the design would be produced as a commercial product.
